Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a visa for medical treatment in India?
Yes. Most international patients travel on India's e-Medical Visa, applied for online through the Government of India's official e-Visa website (indianvisaonline.gov.in). It allows multiple entries and is valid for one year from the date of arrival. The official site says to apply at least 4 days before you arrive, within a 120-day window.
Medwell helps you obtain the hospital's visa invitation letter. Check eligibility for your nationality on the official site.
Can a family member travel with me to India for treatment?
Yes. According to the official Indian e-Visa website, up to two e-Medical Attendant Visas can be granted against one patient's e-Medical Visa. Attendants are usually close family members who support you during treatment. Medwell can include your companions when arranging flights and a hotel near the hospital.
How long will I need to stay in India for treatment?
Your stay depends on the treatment, your recovery and your specialist's advice. For example, the NHS says a full IVF cycle typically takes around 3 to 6 weeks, while NHS hospital guidance advises checking with your surgeon before long-haul flights after surgery. Your treating doctor confirms the plan, and Medwell helps you book accommodation for that period.
Which cities in India can I be treated in through Medwell?
Medwell's partner hospitals are in Delhi NCR: Gurugram (Paras Health, Fortis Memorial Research Institute and Artemis Hospital), New Delhi (BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, Fortis Flt. Lt. Rajan Dhall Hospital in Vasant Kunj and Fortis La Femme) and Noida (Fortis Hospital, Noida). Delhi airport is an authorised e-Visa entry point.
What languages do doctors speak in India?
Doctors at Medwell partner hospitals in India consult in English and Hindi, and some list additional languages on their profiles. If you prefer another language, such as Arabic, French, Russian, Swahili, Bengali or Uzbek, you can request an interpreter through Medwell when booking your appointment.
How much does medical treatment in India cost?
