Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Medwell help me book flights to India for treatment?

Yes. Medwell helps you plan flights to India around your hospital appointment dates and coordinates airport pickup when you arrive in Delhi. Tell us your departure city, preferred dates and the number of people travelling, including any companions. Medwell replies within 24 hours.

Which airport should I fly into for treatment in Delhi NCR?

Fly into Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, which serves Gurugram, New Delhi and Noida, where all Medwell partner hospitals are located. Delhi is one of the authorised entry airports for India's e-Visa, including the e-Medical Visa. Medwell coordinates airport pickup to your hotel or hospital.

When should I arrive in India before treatment?

Arrive in time for your first consultation and any tests the hospital needs before treatment; Medwell confirms these dates with the hospital. Apply for your e-Medical Visa early: the official e-Visa website says to apply at least 4 days before arrival.

Can a companion fly with me to India?

Yes. Up to two companions can travel with you on e-Medical Attendant Visas linked to your e-Medical Visa, according to the official Indian e-Visa website. Medwell can include your companions when planning flights, airport pickup and a hotel near the hospital.

When can I fly home after surgery?

Your surgeon confirms when you are fit to fly, as this depends on your procedure and recovery. As general guidance, NHS advice for cosmetic surgery abroad suggests not flying for 5 to 7 days after breast surgery or liposuction, and an NHS orthopaedic hospital advises waiting 3 months after hip or knee replacement before journeys over 4 hours.

How can I reduce the risk of blood clots on a long flight?

The NHS says journeys of more than 4 hours increase the risk of DVT (deep vein thrombosis). It advises wearing loose clothing, drinking plenty of water, avoiding alcohol and walking around when possible. After surgery, ask your doctor whether you need extra protection before flying.

Do I need to tell my airline that I have had surgery?

Yes, you should tell your airline or travel company about recent surgery, as NHS hospital guidance advises. Airlines set their own rules for flying after surgery, so check with them before you book your return. Your treating doctor can advise on your fitness to fly.
